Monday, 5 December 2011

I've decided to blog about an article I read in the December 2011 issue of Vogue UK. The article featured an inside view into the life, legacy and style of the Alexander McQueen Creative Director, Sarah Burton.
Considering Alexander McQueen has been my all time favourite designer since I was a young teenager, I was unsure that Sarah Burton would have the ability to live up to the legacy that was the late Alexander McQueen himself who tragically died in February. If any of you have followed my blog in the past, you will be able to see that my love for the late designer and his visions was something I was truly passionate about and when he took his own life, I could honestly say I was heart-broken that I would never not only have the opportunity to meet the great man himself (only in my dreams could I imagine such an opportunity) but the world would never again be graced with his bespoke and incredible creations that changed fashion over the years.
But after reading the article, It is clear that Sarah Burton has such a similar, rare and beautiful vision that McQueen himself had when it came to how he wanted his label to be portrayed. Not only does Burton seem exceptionally talented (take for instance Kate Middleton's beautiful royal bridal gown Burton secretly made earlier this year) but she is also a genuine loving and giving person. A very down to earth women with strong views yet a caring nature. It seems in many peoples eyes, Burton is a hero and a great legacy to a man that many wouldn't even dream of competing with. She is highly respectful of McQueen and talks of him not only as a colleague, but a great and loyal friend.
The photograph that accompanies the detailed interview features Sarah Burton alongside an elegant model effortlessly draped in a dress from Burtons resort 2012 collection. The striking thing about the image though, is the location. Photographed in an old English pub, the backdrop acts as a beautiful juxtaposition from the gown or anything to do with fashion in that matter. With the model taking centre stage in the image as she stands on a rounded table allowing the viewers to see the beautiful and delicate craftsmanship that has gone in to the dress, a true vision of beauty. The Image reflects the down to earth beauty that Burton projects, which is a rare quality that someone of such fashion status can posses.

decided I'm not going to blog now until I get back to London on tuesday considering theres nothing to blog about in Preston when you have no social life because everyone's at university. Right now, if even a plastic bag swept past my window it'd probably be the most dramatic and exciting thing thats happened all week (not literally of course, I don't genuinely get excited over flying plastic bags)

ciao until tuesday.

GARETH PUGH FOR MAC

I'm so excited, legendary North-Eastern designer Gareth Pugh is famous for his outrageous catwalk creations. now, he's putting some of that dramatic, striking creative skills in to a makeup brand for MAC cosmetics!
the collection is made up of nail varnishes, blushes, lipsticks, cream eyeshadows and to die for strikingly cut lashes to complete the look. futuristic magic from catwalk to retail available to all.
sadly, the collection isn't available in the UK for a while but when it is here I'll be sure to invest in a couple of pieces and review!

HEY MINNIE MOUSE.

so, a couple of my friends have been asking me how I managed to make my hair into a bow a couple of weeks back for a night out. for the hairstyle I simply followed a step-by-step tutorial on YouTube and actually found it surprisingly easy. originally, I thought I would find the hairstyle particularly hard to do considering the fact I have long thick hair to work with. but, with a vast amount of hair pins and hair spray, it held in place perfectly!

and heres the end result, voila!

DEEZEE.PL

found this amazing shoe website called www.deezee.pl the other day after browsing through different looks on lookbook.nu and finding a pair of shoes on a girl that I absolutely adored.
the only problem is though, the whole website is in polish! ergh, its proving to be an absolute challenge and a half to translate the whole thing and then convert all the currency.

pure. dedication. to. shoes.

the prices are really cheap as well once you've convert them to sterling.
I love the selection of bright colours, textures and platforms they have, perfect for all occasions over the christmas period. will definitely be investing in a couple of pairs! they also do fantastic imitations of well loved designer shoes but for a fifth of the price!

not looking forward to falling on the winter ice wearing these!, here are my favourites...

Decided to re-do my blog design considering I have nothing better to do whilst cooped up in bed ill, Have a feeling it looks worse than before but It passed time so it can stay like this for a little while. I've been looking over a couple of more established fashion blogs recently to get some ideas and to generally just have a nosey, clearly these bloggers are a bit more committed to their blogs than I am!

have a browse of www.theblondesalad.com I love how she writes, how she photographs and how she styles herself. I originally found her on www.lookbook.nu and then followed her from there!

Considering the Versace for H&M shirt sold out in record time, you can buy collar tips off ASOS and simply attach them to any collar of any shirt! click here for this set that are currently on sale at just £12.00!

xoxox
Marcus Collins of the X-Factor also rocked the Versace for H&M Menswear collection! matching hot pink tuxedo jacket, shirt and shoes. A pretty daring overdose of luminous colour but I think it suits him with his skin tone, It has such an eighties electric feel to it and I especially love the gold collar tips, a must for this season for both men and women. also, is it weird that I have serious eye-brow envy!?

Versace for H&M

I wish I could of been well enough to go to Regent Street for the Versace collection at H&M launch. I must admit, from looking online its a beautiful collection.

Selling out in a record breaking thirty minutes the collection left the rails quicker than it was put on. its no wonder that this happened, the collection combines bright royal middle easten colours and prints, beautiful fabrics that clash with harsh cuts of leather and gold studded surface designs. the collection embraces the archives of Versaces and as Donatella Versace herself said "The collection for H&M is the essence of Versace"

Here are some of my favourite pieces from the collection...

Isn't it fantastic!? for the full collection lookbook and review click here

100% to die for...

Charlotte Olympia's Autumn Winter '11 heels are too beautiful.

The colours, fabrics, textures and the basic structure of the shoe collection echos class and glamour in a seductive manor. Olympia also uses her signature platform to add impact the much desired height. Who wouldn't feel sexy wearing a pair of these? They might not be practical for the ice of winter, but who cares?! These babies are worth risking a broken ankle for!

London's calling...

Decided to start my blog up again considering I've now moved to the big city and I'm beginning to settle in (currently, I'm back home in preston for the week but lets pretend I'm in London whilst writing this!)

London is INSANE. I love everything about it, its everything I wanted and more and I'm so so so lucky to have this opportunity! I am a first year student at London College of Communication studying Public Relations. I was so nervous about the degree as I didn't know what to expect, but I love it. Everybody seems to love my accent down south as well, they enjoy it when I say the words 'black' and 'curry' for some reason and they love pointing out that I say the words 'like' and 'ermmm' about eight times in a sentence!

So yes, I'm going to bring my fashion blog back considering I have NO reason not to blog about fashion and lifestyle because I live in THE fashion capital of the world. I'll keep an update of my day to day london life as well, not that anybody will be interested but never the less I'll still write about it.

ciao!

They say once you go black, you never go back.

(I mean that in the fashion sense, not as a sexual preference)

This happens to be a true statement, a statement that haunts all those who follow it during the months of summer. I refuse to dress for the opposite season this year though. bye bye black, hello bright summer wardrobe.

I hate to say this, but I love River Island this season...

I'm currently sat in college because I have been sentenced to Easter school. fantastic.
Finding out you have to attend Easter school is like having your balloon popped as a kid - depressing.
On the other hand, I have news...

I'M GOING TO LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION!

oh babyyy, Hello BA Hons degree in Public Relations.

so so so so so excited right now! all my hopes and dreams have come true.

After receiving comments on my Formspring account that people actually go out of their way to read this blog, it made me realize that I must actually write pretty decent things and not just a load of rants, facts and random thoughts (if you've read some of my previous posts, you'd understand that I have a hatred for blogs that are a just a load of rants, facts and random thoughts)
But, on the other hand, I feel there are a couple of new factors to my life that some readers may be interested in. so I'll briefly contradict my previous statement about my hatred for blogs that are just a load of 'rants, facts and random thoughts' for the next four bullet points...

1. I received an offer to study Business with Fashion Marketing at London Met
2. I am a finalist for Miss Preston 2011
3. I am currently in bed with cheeks that make me look like a hamster storing a weeks worth of food (If you happen to see me in this state, please remember bullet point 2)
4. I ate beetroot for the first time yesterday, It was disgusting.

end of contradiction.

Nicholas Kirkwood

His shoes are sculptured, striking yet minimalistic, a delicate mix of block colours means that the collection defines the designer as a perfect representative for british fashion.
these are my favorite from his Spring/Summer fantastic 2011 collection (:

Monday, 21 February 2011

It has been exactly 36 days since I last blogged.

I reckon its fair to say that my New years resolution that was to blog on a daily basis has failed. well and truly failed.
To be honest, it wasn't the only jolly new years resolution that ended within a month or so. There was of course the pledge to stay on top of all coursework, not fall for stupid boys AND the typical diets that I tortured myself to stick to (clearly didn't torture myself enough). They all FAILED.
the thing is, the thought of eating barely anything and killing myself in a gym doesn't appeal to me and for that matter I have no idea how it could appeal to any other sane human-being. I went to the gym once, lasted about twenty minutes, then spent the remainder of the hour waiting for my sister sat next to a vending machine full of twice the amount of calories that I had just looked ridiculous burning on a running machine. Fantastic.
And as for the boys new years resolution? well, I reckon thats more my fault.

oh well, clearly I just wasn't made for New Years resolutions. I'll live.

I'll do a fashion post tomorrow because tonight I have to get ready for an early start in the morning! I'm off to Manchester, China Town with the rents (:
I'll post pictures tomorrow!
