I always try and change my makeup routine from time to time. since moving to london my makeup is definitely more natural with more focus on highlighting the eyes. I have a really small mouth and thin lips so I tend to focus attention more on my eyes whilst keeping my lips neutral.
I spent a long time the other day in the store attempting to find the perfect colour brow pencil to perfect the famous 'scouse brow' that I've had for quite a long time. (for those who don't know what a scouse brow is, I'll put a note at the bottom explaining!) In the past, I've generally gone for a dark brow pencil for added impact, but recently I've decided to go for a more subtle, natural colour and thinner shape which frames my face much better.
I've seen a lot of catwalk makeup trends recently that feature bright pops of colour on the face, highlighting specific features juxtaposing with a natural, dewy foundation base. Considering I have bright red hair, I find it difficult to use colour without looking like a cheesy holiday kid's club rep or some form of 80's reject. But, I decided to attempt to create a smokey eye using subtle shades of purple for my LFW look. I followed the same smokey eye routines that I use daily but I changed the colours around.
Firstly, I covered the whole eye in a sharp matte white all the way up to the brow as a base. Then, using a light purple i filled in my crease, brow bone and about a third of the outer corner of the lid. Then, using a dark, intense purple I emphasised the corner of my eye and the crease to create an eye-opening, cat-like effect. I added white liner to the teardrop and over the the inner corner of the crease to make the eyes pop before finishing with a sharp black thin line of black liquid liner on the top and a brown kohl pencil line underneath.
I think the look is subtle, but fun. worn day or night you can make the colour as subtle or intense as you like.
depending on your hair colour and complexion, different colours will suit different people. So experiment and play around and see what combinations you come up with!

advice - try to do your eye makeup before your foundation. I have found, especially whilst using the Urban Decay palette, that the colour easily falls on to your face during application. If you leave your foundation routine until after you have finished applying your eye makeup, you have the ability to remove the blemishes from the face and touch up any mistakes.
The 'Scouse Brow' - the 'Scouse Brow' is a dramatic eyebrow shape made famous by the TV show Desperate Scousewives. The edgy style originates from Liverpool and features sharp, dark, box eyebrows. Although some people go to an extreme, the brow can also be subtle yet striking and can define the shape of a face. The key to perfecting the brow is all about the shape. Not for the faint hearted, the brow can easily look trashy but, done correctly, the brow can highlight and emphasise the eyes creating an overall intense and sharp makeup look.
